My Classes

Classes are in the style of a slow hatha flow with deep core exercises added to the mix. In 2007 I began my on-going training with Ana Forrest, an internationally respected yoga master. Ana developed her own style of Forrest Yoga and has over 30 years of yoga experience.

I have also studied extensively in workshops for both the Hatha, Anusara, & Iyengar styles of yoga. In addition, I attend workshops/classes offered by Tony Briggs, Tony Eason, and Les Leventhal. From this I have developed the approach to create a playful, compassionate atmosphere enabling you to explore, find your edge and inspiration in order to reach your personal goals.

My Bio

In 1996, I attended my first yoga class at World Gym in San Diego. The yoga teacher asked "why are you taking this class?" I answered, "to learn something new about my body". From that small beginning, I continued taking random yoga classes for a period of time until I became a devotee a number of years later. A driving force towards my yoga commitment was persistent back pain due to my job. This pain began running down my legs and signs of sciatica were evident. So by 2003 I found myself regularly in yoga classes. By practicing the strict alignment principles of Iyengar yoga with Tony Eason, I noticed that my sacrum area & lumbar spine had started to loosen and my back pain lessened. I also discovered the power of the deep breath, and the mindfulness of the practice.

Not long after this revelation, I started to apply the lessons of my Iyengar training while practicing hatha yoga classes. Les Leventhal inspired me with his insightful and challenging classes. Darren Main & Christopher Love 's Hawaii yoga retreat was also a celebration of the deepening of my yoga practice and my life. I added classes with instructors Rusty Wells, Janet Stone, & Joy Ravelli as well.

It was Joy Ravelli who then suggested that I become a yoga instructor. At first I was in denial about the prospect of teaching yoga but eventually realized that I truly had a desire to teach this practice. Joy’s suggestion took root and sent me into a world of self-discovery, many yoga work-shops, and eventually to Seattle where I took my yoga teacher training with Ana Forrest. My teacher training was very powerful for me in a spiritual, physical, and emotional way.

Twelve years later the innocent answer as to why I was taking yoga ("to learn something new about my body") is still the core of what yoga is for me. Yoga is an exploration of the muscles, the bones, the tendons, the breath, and a break from the churning mind.

Presently, I teach an Ana Forrest inspired yoga class (Hatha Flow) at Gold's (SOMA) Gym in San Francisco.

Love & Peace,

Paul
